36 brands in 36 days
Challenge: 36 Days of Type
Platform: Instagram
Date: 2022
36 Days of Type is an annual global challenge for creatives. Every spring, for 36 days straight, designers and artists and illustrators and photographers and animators and typographers share their take on the letters A-Z and numbers 0-9.
I’ve been participating in this challenge since 2016. I like to pick a theme to guide my collection each year.
For 2022, my theme was letter-based logomarks. Each entry (logomark, main logo, logo variation, mockups, etc.) was done in a day. I stuck to black and white only for the logos, as it would quickly have devolved into an even bigger time suck if color got involved. I did bring color into play with the photography choices and mockups, though.
For each letter and number, I had a faux company or creative brief to develop an identity for. Now, these were pretty surface level and quick given the nature of the challenge, but I did still try to capture a vibe and uniqueness in each one.
It was quite a whirlwind of a challenge. I love how most of these turned out, and it was fun working with such a variety of faux company briefs, but *man* it was a much bigger time investment than I anticipated going into it.
